About this guide
Lyttelton Harbour is an independent guide to Whakaraupō / Lyttelton Harbour, its port town and its bays. It is written by the Lyttelton Harbour guide editors for visitors, new residents and anyone curious about the harbour.
What we are not
To be plain about it, this site is not:
- the Lyttelton information centre or any official visitor service;
- Christchurch City Council, Environment Canterbury or any government agency;
- Lyttelton Port Company;
- Heritage New Zealand;
- the local business association that once ran a directory at this web address, or any business that was listed in it.
We don't speak for any of them. We link to them because they publish the official information: timetables, track closures, event dates, consents and rules.
How we write
We write fresh, practical stories and check our facts against official and published sources, which we link in each story. We don't list or rank businesses, take advertising or accept payment for coverage. Where something changes often, such as ferry times, track closures or water quality, we point you to the source instead of repeating details that might go stale.
We write about Ngāi Tahu and Ngāti Wheke history, and about the 2010–11 earthquakes, with care and only from published sources. If we have something wrong, please tell us and we will fix it.
The address
This web address was used by earlier harbour websites between 2000 and 2016. The archive note explains what was here and where old links now lead.
